A New Day – Cornerstone Orchard’s Dedication

“Ebenezer – Thus far the Lord has helped us.” These were the words inscribed on the dedication stone at Orchard Towers – reflecting our hearts of gratitude and awe as we look upon God’s faithfulness to Cornerstone. Taken from 1 Samuel 7:12, this was when the prophet Samuel set up a stone to commemorate God’s help in defeating the Philistines and named it “Ebenezer”. Likewise, God’s grace alone has brought Cornerstone thus far. It is His hand that has led us through all these years, from the time of our early beginnings.

As we gathered to dedicate Cornerstone Orchard unto the Lord on 16 January 2026, pastors, special guests, and friends declared in song – “Blessed be the Lord, God, Almighty, who was and is and is to come.”

We give glory to our God who remains steadfast in every season, and who has heard the prayers of many who prayed for a church to redeem this place. Once a nightclub known for all kinds of vices – sex, alcohol, and violence, it has become a place for God’s dwelling – a New Day has come! Nothing is impossible with God.

Looking back upon our journey, we can trace the hand of God in every milestone over the last three decades.

Back in 1995, the Lord dropped a “rhema” word into Pastor Yang’s spirit that He was going to give us a place of our own. By a series of divine circumstances, we were led to Odeon Katong Theatre after a few other doors were closed by the Lord. For those of us who have been in the church since its early years, you would remember the

church moving from place to place, renting auditoriums, hotel ballrooms, and shophouses for our gatherings before we finally moved into Odeon Katong.

Back then, the congregation comprised mostly students, so the purchase was truly a leap of faith, but one taken with a clear vision – to see revival, and for the Lord to fill this place with His glory. Who would have imagined that the Lord would take us so much further – opening doors into many different nations, redeeming The Bible College of Wales and Pisgah Chapel, and today, dedicating our second service site at Orchard Towers.

As he addressed everyone at the Cornerstone Orchard Dedication Service, Pastor Yang recollected the story of our beginnings and how he felt when he first set foot in the Odeon Katong Theatre, formerly a nightclub called Music World, the biggest in the East of Singapore.

“When I saw the place, it literally took my breath away. I saw through my spiritual eyes what it could become one day. And the Lord said, “This is the place for you.” That was the same feeling I had when I stepped into

our unit at Orchard Towers.”

Pastor Yang shared the journey we went on after acquiring the main theatre at Odeon Katong, moving into units previously occupied by nightclubs, pubs, and massage parlours – it is an anointing the Lord has given us!

As the church continued to grow over the years, we sensed the need to expand into the city in 2019, renting a facility in Bugis+ to hold two more services. In our search for a permanent location for the Cornerstone Bugis congregation, we nearly secured a place at Sultan Plaza, but the Lord told Pastor Yang that it was not the right place for us. Soon after, our bid for another location also fell through, but in God’s perfect time, the opportunity to take over two former nightclubs in Orchard Towers came, and an exciting new chapter for the church unfolded.

Praise the Lord!
