Camp Venture: A Journey of Unity, Faith and Taking Ground

Updated: Jul 18

Last year’s annual Generations Youth Camp, aptly named Camp Venture, was a powerful experience that embodied the spirit of “taking ground” and “possessing the land,” highlighted in Deuteronomy 1:8. The word “venture” symbolised the youths’ call to step boldly into their spheres of influence for the sake of the Gospel. More than a call to step out in faith, it was a time of gathering in unity as one body of Christ.

God's Faithfulness in Every Step

From planning to execution, God’s providence was evident. Though challenges arose, His faithfulness shone through – whether it was in securing resources, finalising logistics, or overcoming the unexpected.

One moment that stood out was God clearing the skies and stopping the rain when we called out to Him. Just days before the camp, the weather forecast predicted thunderstorms throughout. Yet, by God’s grace, we were blessed with mostly bright and sunny weather until the final day. As the camp committee set up for the Mass Game, rain began to fall. The fear that all our preparations might go to waste arose, but rather than give in to worry, we gathered to pray. After almost an hour, the rain stopped.

What could have been a disruption became a moment of unity. As campers waited out the storm, they didn’t just cheer for their own “tribes” (teams), but for Generations as a ministry – a display of oneness in Christ.

"I remember huddling under a partially waterproof tent with the camp committee, filled with joy as we stood together praying that the Category 1 lightning warning would be lifted so Geners could play outdoors. By God’s grace, it really happened! This divine interruption did not just bring the campers together but also the camp committee as we stood firm with faith in Him. It also made me realise that it isn’t the planning that makes the camp so good, but rather the Lord’s presence and His gracious hand at work!"

Encounters with God

Beyond the fellowship and fun, Camp Venture was a place of divine encounters. This year, we had the privilege of hearing from Pastor Matthew, Pastor Yao Yi, John Nick Lee, and our Zone Leaders. Each speaker brought a unique revelation on “taking ground”, challenging campers to live lives of faith and purpose. For many, this camp was a turning point.

"Sitting at His feet in adoration, repentance, and obedience was truly awesome. I learned that consecration is a gift - the privilege of knowing what is on God’s heart and being trusted with so much."

— Janae

"God revealed Joel 2 to me, where we see the prophet Joel calling the people to repentance and the Lord pouring His Spirit out. I pray that as the youths go out from this camp, we will not quench the fire that the Holy Spirit has deposited into us."

— Elijah

"God placed a word in my heart about youths struggling with smoking. The day I surrendered this addiction to Him, it changed me and transformed how I looked at life. I feel like God wants to use my testimony to encourage youths experiencing this addiction that it is possible to be free. I have to start spreading the word of God to them!"

One of the highlights of Camp Venture was Bridal Company, Generation’s prayer and worship initiative. Each morning, campers rose early to seek God together, encountering His tangible presence in a way that deeply moved many hearts. It was a powerful reminder of the importance of seeking God first and foremost in all things.

During the final session before “breaking camp”, many campers were deeply touched by the Holy Spirit, crying out for more of Him, encountering Him, and lingering in

His presence.

"I had my first real encounter with God. He showed me how much He loved and cared for me - that really touched my heart. His warm embrace was like the light at the end of the dark tunnel, and I no longer felt worthless or alone."

— Callum

A Spiritual Milestone

Camp Venture was more than just an event – it was a spiritual milestone. This year’s camp was marked by the goodness and grace of God, which we encountered in different moments - the hectic planning process, preparation, and during the sessions.

The camaraderie between the campers created an atmosphere that brought out the best in everyone. While there was certainly a competitive spirit among the “tribes” the youths were divided into, what stood out most was the unity that prevailed throughout the camp. The youths didn’t just compete – they supported each other, celebrated each other’s successes, and grew together in Christ.

As we look ahead, we are filled with anticipation for what God will continue to do through the next generation. May He equip and empower them to “take ground” for His glory, as they boldly step into their purpose and calling.
